Content creator Peller has responded to criticism after gifting his girlfriend, Jarvis, a luxury AMG car for her birthday while buying a more modest car for his mother. The TikToker surprised Jarvis with a Mercedes-Benz AMG following their reunion after a breakup.

Peller explained that buying a car for one’s mother is often seen as an obligation, whereas gifting a girlfriend a car is perceived as a stronger display of wealth and generosity.

During a live stream, he revealed that his mother initially requested a Toyota worth about ₦9 million due to lower maintenance costs, but he chose to buy her a Hyundai reportedly valued at ₦20 million instead.

“Being rich is not by what you buy for yourself, or what you buy for your mummy. If you buy it for your mummy they’d say it is out of pity because she don take care of you from small. She deserve am. That one na normal thing,” he said.

“Buying your girlfriend a car is the best way to show people that you’re rich. My mum wanted a 9 million Toyota because of maintenance but I bought her a 20 million Hyundai instead.
