Business Mogul Obi Cubana Announces Backing for Tinubu’s 2027 Bid

Prominent businessman and socialite Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has publicly declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027. This endorsement comes via his appointment as the South-East Coordinator for the ‘City Boy Movement’, a political support group aligned with the President.

The appointment was formalised when the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, visited Obi Cubana’s Abuja residence late on Monday night to present his letter of appointment.

Confirming the development in a social media post on Tuesday, Obi Cubana stated the visit was both social and strategic. “Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We held great conversations about everything,” he wrote.

The Anambra-born entrepreneur explained that his decision to accept the role was intentional, driven by a belief in active participation over political detachment. He acknowledged the mixed public reactions but defended his choice. “I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he said.

He assured that his new political affiliation would not compromise his core values. “Integrity, community service, and responsible leadership would remain central to my actions,” he emphasized, adding, “I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through.”

Obi Cubana described President Tinubu as a leader with a deep understanding of commerce and pledged that his coordination role would focus on fostering unity and inclusivity within the South-East and across Nigeria. “All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along,” he stated.

He concluded by calling for respectful dialogue, urging Nigerians to “respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value.” He also thanked his supporters, assuring them his involvement aims to promote a broader and more inclusive national future.
