Boss Mustapha, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said those who withdrew $6,230,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on February 8, 2023, falsified the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mustapha claimed that his signature was also forged and that he was ignorant of the funds that was allegedly withdrawn to pay for foreign election observers during his testimony on Tuesday, February 13, in the trial of Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The former SGF asserted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should handle all matters pertaining to election observers, and that neither the federal government nor the SGF office was in the business of requesting funds from the CBN for the payment of foreign election observers.
On Monday, Michael Onyeka Ogbu, a CBN official, testified before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama that the money was given to Jibril Abubakar, an official from the SGF’s office, in cash after President Buhari and CBN governor Godwin Emefiele approved the withdrawal request.
