In a significant development for Manchester United, Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been officially named as the new club captain, taking over the role from Harry Maguire.
The decision was made by coach Erik ten Hag after he decided to strip Maguire of the captaincy following a series of events during the previous season.
Fernandes, who had been the de facto captain for the team after Maguire’s status as an automatic choice was revoked by ten Hag after just two matches last season, has already proven his leadership abilities on numerous occasions.
The club issued a statement confirming his new role, stating, “The Portuguese midfielder has already worn the armband for United on numerous occasions, and Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he will now lead the team permanently.”
Since joining Manchester United in 2020, Bruno Fernandes has been an instrumental force on the field, contributing immensely to the team’s success. With an impressive record of 64 goals and 54 assists in just 185 games for the club, his talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed.
As the new captain of the club, Fernandes is expected to continue driving the team towards success in the upcoming 2023/24 season and beyond.
