2023 AFCON: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Record First Ever Win Over Elephants Of Ivory Coast

The Super Eagles of Nigeria has recorded the first ever win over the Elephants of Ivory Coast on their home land, which is a first-ever in the history of African football.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria went into the game under pressure, placing as low as third place in Group A which means they needed to win if possible to stand a chance to make it out of the group.

Pressure was mounted on the Chipolopolos tonight after Equatorial Guinea thrashed Guinea-Bissau in their second group stage game. Their 4-2 victory over underdogs the Djurtus has them sitting pretty at the summit of Group A with four points from two games.
Hence, the winless Super Eagles were condemned to beat their Ivorians and luckily they recorded the needed win though the hosts looked more compact throughout the game.

The lone goal that made all the difference was scored by the Super Eagles’ skipper William Troost-Ekong from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen was fouled in the box.

The 1-0 win means the Super Eagles of Nigeria now has 4 points in two games but still sits second behind Equatorial Guinea on goal difference.
