BREAKING: Appeal Court Delivers Fresh Ruling On Abba Kyari’s Freedom

Abuja’s Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal submitted by suspended DCP Abba Kyari, which sought to quash the previous ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja denying his bail application.

In a unanimous judgment read by Justice Stephen Adah on Friday, it was held that Kyari’s appeal lacked merit.

The judge cautioned that bail requests should be handled carefully given the nature of the charges against Kyari and others before the trial court.

The Appeal Court found that Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had appropriately exercised his discretion in denying Kyari bail.

Kyari, a former head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force, and four members of the IRT – ACP Sunday J. Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirgba, and Inspector John Nuhu – are being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

They are accused of conspiring to deal in 17.55kg of cocaine, dealing in cocaine without lawful authority, conspiring to tamper with cocaine, and unlawfully tampering with the 21.35kg of cocaine seized from two convicted drug dealers. Kyari is also charged with attempting to obstruct officials of the NDLEA by offering them a bribe.
