- Reflecting on the PDP’s loss in the 2023 general election, George highlights the issue of regional marginalization and the need for equitable distribution of power.
Bode George, a long-standing adversary of Bola Tinubu, expressed his openness to working with the influential politician if given the opportunity.
FRESHREPORTERS gathered during a press conference held at his office in Ikoyi that George made it clear that he had no personal issues with the president and would gladly collaborate for the betterment of the nation.
As a military-trained individual, George emphasized the camaraderie and shared mission among soldiers. He stated that if Tinubu approached him to work together in the interest of the country, he would not refuse the offer.
Having received his training across various regions of the world, George acknowledged the debt of gratitude he owed to his homeland and emphasized the importance of giving back to the system that had shaped him.
Shifting the conversation to the recently concluded 2023 general election, Bode George shared his insights on the reasons behind the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) defeat.
He attributed the loss to the party’s failure in addressing regional disparities and marginalization.
George pointed out that the country had been divided into six geopolitical zones, with each zone expecting to secure a top position in Nigeria’s leadership.
The intention was to rotate power between the North and the South after eight years, ensuring equal representation for all regions.
However, the PDP, according to George, disregarded this principle, resulting in a flawed distribution of power.
FRESHREPORTERS learned that he criticized the party’s decision to appoint a national chairman from the same Northern region as their presidential candidate, which went against the efforts to prevent power concentration.
George highlighted the inconsistency of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who initially dismissed the concept of zoning, only to eventually implement it in practice.
By neglecting the concerns of the South West region and dismissing their inclusion until after the elections, the PDP inadvertently fueled their own downfall.
Bode George stressed the importance of addressing regional imbalances and ensuring a fair representation of all sections of the country.
He lamented the consequences of ignoring these issues, indicating that the PDP’s defeat was a direct result of this oversight.
As Bode George expressed his willingness to set aside differences with Tinubu and work together, it remains to be seen how this development will unfold in the dynamic political landscape of Nigeria.
The focus on equitable power distribution and regional inclusion serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in building a united and prosperous nation.
