Blasphemy: They are in custody – Police spokesperson CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi dismisses claims that Deborah’s killers have been released

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has dismissed rumors that the suspects arrested in connection with the killing of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto state have been released.

Deborah, a 200-level Home Economics student, was stoned and burnt to death on May 12, 2022, by a group of irate youths, including some people believed to be her classmates, over allegations of blasphemy.

Many Nigerians have been concerned about the status of the suspects arrested in connection with the heinous crime, with some claiming that they had been released.

In response to the rumors, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that the arrested suspects are currently being held in a correctional center.

Adejobi also reassured the public that the police are committed to ensuring that justice is served in the case.

He has requested that the Sokoto state Public Relations Officer release photos of the suspects to dispel any doubts about their current status.

The killing of Deborah Samuel sparked outrage across Nigeria, with many calling for justice for the young woman and an end to the culture of mob violence and extrajudicial killings in the country.

The police have assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are brought to justice.
