Rodrigo Bentancur, who was replaced during Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Man City on Tuesday, was visibly upset and found it difficult to control his feelings.
Shortly after Erling Haaland gave City the lead for the evening, the Uruguayan was replaced by Dejan Kulusevski, which incited the midfield player to erupt in rage as he took his position on the bench.
Video showed the Spurs player kicking his seat three times in a fit of wrath minutes after being taken off, and Bryan Gil, who was terrified, could only watch it happen next to him.
To the surprise of his teammates, the 26-year-old then hurled his water bottle into the ground before settling down on the Spurs bench.
As the replays played on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, the commentators picked up on the emotional response from the former Juventus man.
