Bandits K!ll Cleric, Abduct Farmers In Kaduna

Malam Yakubu Muhammad Bugai, the Vice-Chairman of Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah (JIBWIS), Birnin-Gwari Branch, has tragically passed away due to injuries sustained during an attack by bandits. The incident occurred on his farm in the Rema area of Birnin-Gwari on Wednesday.

Malam Yakubu Bugai was shot during the bandit attack and was quickly rushed to Jibril Mai-Gwari General Hospital for medical attention. However, he succumbed to his gunshot wounds and passed away on Thursday.

The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. The late Malam Yakubu Bugai was a prominent figure in the Birnin-Gwari Orphans Foundation, a dedicated organization caring for thousands of orphans left behind by victims of armed banditry in the area.

BEPU also highlighted several other incidents of abductions and kidnappings of innocent farmers in the Local Government. The community has been plagued by attacks, with bandits resorting to violence and terrorizing residents.

BEPU’s appeal to the Federal Government includes a request for the establishment of military detachments in Katakaki, Gagumi, Tashar-Keji, and Bugai axis of the Western part of Birnin-Gwari. They expressed grave concern over the continuous attacks on farmers, which have led to approximately 70% of farmlands being inaccessible and jeopardizing this year’s farming outputs.

When contacted, the State Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, Muhammad Lawal Shehu, stated that he couldn’t confirm or deny the report.
