Atiku, Saraki, Kwankwaso, Other Politicians Hails D’Tigress’ AfroBasket Victory

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has extended his congratulations to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, marking their fifth consecutive title.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Atiku described the accomplishment as more than just a sporting success, calling it a testament to Nigeria’s resilience and global excellence.

“D’Tigress have once again written their names in gold, clinching a fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title,” he stated.

“Your victory is not just a win for basketball, it’s a proud symbol of Nigeria’s enduring excellence on the global stage even against all odds. Congratulations.”

Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, also congratulated the team.

Sharing pictures on his X account on Sunday, he said,

“These pictures of excitement and the pride with which the Nigerian flag is being hoisted by the players resonate as a reminder that we have no other country than Nigeria.

We must be proud of our country. Thank you, President Bola Tinubu, for your unwavering support for our sportsmen and women and indeed sports development.”

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki celebrated the team’s win in a brief message on X, he wrote;

“History made! The #DtigressNG are champions once again! Congratulations on a massive win at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket — your fifth consecutive title. The entire nation is proud of you!”

Similarly, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso took to his X handle to commend the team, saying:

“Huge congratulations to Nigeria’s D’Tigress on winning an unprecedented fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women title. This team is truly unbeatable! – RMK”
