The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has visited the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, reiterating his commitment to the welfare and readiness of military personnel.
During his operational visit to the Port Harcourt Barracks, Lt. Gen. Shaibu addressed troops, stating that assessing operational readiness and engaging directly with soldiers on challenges are key goals of his ongoing tours of formations. He promised focused efforts to improve the living conditions of soldiers and their families.
The Army Chief urged the division to maintain high levels of discipline and professionalism, particularly in safeguarding critical national infrastructure and supporting security operations aimed at boosting oil production in the Niger Delta region. This aligns with his command philosophy of building a professional and combat-ready force.
Prior to the address, the division’s General Officer Commanding, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, briefed the COAS on current operations and barracks projects, affirming the unit’s alignment with the Army’s strategic vision. The visit also included a symbolic tree-planting exercise and an interactive session where troops voiced concerns about welfare and operations, highlighting the Army’s focus on morale and security in the vital Niger Delta region.
