Any roaming cattle will be sláughtered, served as meals in Ghana prïson — Kumasi Mayor declares

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has announced a firm crackdown on stray cattle in commercial areas of the Ghanaian city, declaring that beginning 1st of May 2025, any roaming livestock will be confiscated, slaughtered, and the meat used to feed inmates at the Kumasi Central Prison.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kumasi, the Mayor said the move is in response to the persistent issue of cattle roaming freely through the city, disrupting daily activities and tarnishing Kumasi’s image.

He issued a clear warning to herders, urging them to keep their animals away from urban areas or face harsh consequences.

The Mayor said:

“There is another thing I will want you to help me look at. If you have cattle and if they stray in the domain of KMA, be assured that from May 1, they will be killed and given to Kumasi Central Prison for food. Especially the route from the airport through to Manhyia Palace.
