The Akwa Ibom State Police Command held a press conference where they paraded several suspects involved in various criminal activities. Among the suspects was Aniekan James, who stands accused of killing his only son, Odudu James, aged 35.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, revealed that Aniekan James is believed to have committed multiple murders in Lagos and Abia states.
Aniekan James was apprehended on June 16, 2023, by the diligent operatives of the Ukanafun Division. According to Commissioner Durosinmi, the suspect shot his son following a heated argument between them. This incident brought to light Aniekan James’ alleged history as a habitual murderer, having reportedly committed previous killings in Lagos and Aba states.
In addition to the case of patricide, the police commissioner also presented another high-profile case involving the abduction of a vice-chancellor from a private university. The victim had been kidnapped while returning home, but swift action by the anti-kidnap squad led to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The main suspect, identified as Prince Thursday Okon, had previously worked as a domestic worker for the vice-chancellor. Okon was dismissed from his position due to his criminal behavior and subsequently masterminded the kidnapping. Two accomplices, Saviour Sunday Luke and Richard Friday, were also apprehended.
The police successfully recovered a significant portion of the ransom, amounting to over N2 million, as well as the Toyota Corolla used during the operation. The vice-chancellor has been safely reunited with his family.
Furthermore, the police commissioner disclosed the arrest of Edu Ime, a suspected ritualist found in possession of a human skull. Edu Udeme Ime, hailing from Mbak Etoi village in Uyo, was apprehended at Urua Ekpa Junction by the command’s Quick Response Squad. Ime was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for why he had the human skull in his possession.
