Afrobeat star Davido reflects on son’s dèath, reveals tràgedy reshaped his life, career

Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about how the heartbreaking loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022 became a turning point in his life.

Ifeanyi tragically drowned in a pool at Davido’s Banana Island residence in Lagos State in October that year.

In a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido said he was proud of how he and his wife, Chioma, faced the tragedy and found the strength to move forward.

He explained that the experience reshaped his outlook on life and his career, helping him realign his focus on his goals.

Davido added that their resilience has inspired many, noting that people often approach him to express gratitude for motivating them to remain strong in the face of personal challenges.

“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back on my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life.

“I know how many who randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times. I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we have twins. “

“They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge,” Davido said.
