Award-winning actor and director Kunle Afolayan has clarified his business philosophy in filmmaking, stating he is not interested in industry competition driven solely by box office revenue.
Speaking at the premiere of his latest film, Afolayan emphasized that massive cinema earnings are meaningless if they do not yield substantial personal profit.
“I don’t want to make a film for cinema that grosses ₦2 billion or ₦1 billion, only for me to end up with less than ₦10 million in personal income,” he stated directly to his peers. “So, there is no competition here.”
Afolayan explained that his priority is not chasing headlines or record-breaking numbers, but rather establishing a sustainable and equitable business model that ensures tangible financial returns.
