The Non-resigned National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that political leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, and others are welcome to join the party, provided they formally resign from their current political parties.
The NEC stressed that registration at ward level in their home states, in line with the Electoral Act 2022, is mandatory to avoid legal challenges that could undermine the credibility of the coalition.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, August 11, 2025, the NEC commended outgoing National Chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, for his visionary leadership and affirmed Nafiu Bala, the former Deputy National Chairman, as the legitimate Acting National Chairman.
The committee rejected what it described as unconstitutional attempts to install parallel leadership, stating that the alleged resignation letter of Nafiu Bala was fraudulent and unsupported by official documentation.
The NEC said Bala will oversee daily operations and prepare for a National Convention within 90 days, while also seeking INEC’s formal endorsement of his position.
It urged members to report irregularities to the party secretariat and reaffirmed that no non-member is permitted to hold office under Article 9.5 of the party’s constitution.
