Accident Claims 20 Lives Of Partygoers As Bus Crashes On Lagos-Badagry Expressway (Video)

It was a Black Sunday in the Badagry area of Lagos State as an 18-seater commercial bus filled with partygoers crashed, tragically resulting in the loss of all passengers on board. The driver of the bus and his motor boy also lost their lives in the devastating accident.

According to reports, the passengers had chartered the bus from the Yaba area of Lagos to attend a group party in the neighboring Republic of Benin.

However, their journey took a fatal turn at approximately 9 am when the accident occurred at Age-Mowo, close to Mowo along the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Taofiq Adebayo, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the details of the incident. “It involved a Mazda commercial bus carrying passengers and a truck loaded with sand,” Adebayo stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the commercial bus lost control while attempting to overtake a tipper truck that was ahead of him. Upon spotting the truck, he swerved to avoid a collision but tragically failed to regain control of the bus. The resulting collision claimed the lives of 20 individuals, including the 18 passengers and the bus driver and his motor boy.

In the wake of the accident, the remains of the victims have been transported to the Badagry General Hospital morgue. Authorities are working diligently to notify and assist the families affected by this heartbreaking incident.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) expressed its deepest condolences to the grieving families, recognizing the immense pain and loss they are enduring. As investigations into the accident continue, authorities are committed to taking measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
