The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to meritocracy and human capital development, stressing that residents of the state now have broader access to free education.
He said this is part of efforts to prepare young people to become future leaders, regardless of their origin.
Speaking on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the 75th birthday celebration of 2023 PDP presidential aspirant, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, in Umuahia, Otti praised the celebrant as one of Nigeria’s finest minds whose ideals have shaped individuals and institutions.
He noted that Abia honours men and women of merit rather than mediocrity, citing the recent appointment of an Edo-born technocrat as Head of Service in the state.
Otti assured that under his leadership, every resident would benefit from policies that prioritise competence and equal opportunities, particularly in education.
Meanwhile, Ohuabunwa, who launched his book Driven by Revelation & Inspiration – My Journey through the 2023 Nigeria Presidential Aspiration and Matters Arising, attributed his journey to divine guidance and warned that Nigeria may not witness true political transformation until 2031.
The event drew dignitaries including Peter Obi, Enugu Governor Peter Mbah (represented), and former Foreign Affairs Minister Chief Ike Nwachukwu.
