Abia govt bans styrofoam ‘Take Away” foils

The State ministry of environment in Abia state has banned the use of ‘Styrofoam’ foils.

The ministry, in a statement signed by the Commissioner of Environment, Philemon Ogbonna on Saturday said use of the product as food containers have been banned in the state.

He noted that the ‘Take Away’ had earlier been banned by some states including Lagos and therefore advised the public to immediately discontinue the use of the foils until investigations are fully carried on the dangers of the product to public health.

Meanwhile, some defaulters were on Saturday apprehended and punished in Umuahia during the exercise of Clean Up exercise in the month of January 2024 in the state.

The defaulters, arrested in some parts of the State capital during environmental sanitation hours were caught either trading or loitering contrary to the government earlier orders.
