Abia State Governor Alex Otti has vowed to prevent Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from returning to the Senate in 2027, declaring that the Labour Party is prepared to block his bid for the Abia North seat.
The governor’s statement, issued through his media aide, was a direct response to Senator Kalu’s recent comments promising a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 elections. Otti dismissed these remarks, stating he has never sought Kalu’s political support and does not need it.
Governor Otti challenged the senator to present the election results from his home ward and local government in the 2023 polls, questioning his grassroots influence. He pointed out that the APC performed poorly in Kalu’s own constituency, casting doubt on his claimed political strength.
Otti asserted that his 2023 victory was built on public trust and a clear vision, promises he argues have now translated into visible development across Abia. He expressed confidence in receiving even stronger voter support in 2027 based on his administration’s achievements.
The governor also criticized the reported entry of Kalu’s younger brother into the 2027 governorship race, recalling his last-place finish in the 2023 election under a different party. Otti revealed that multiple aspirants within the Labour Party are already interested in contesting the Abia North Senate seat and pledged his administration’s full support to the eventual party candidate.
