Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Chike, has revealed that he has no interest in getting married, describing the institution as “a stupid step.”
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the artist said marriage is not a priority in his life.
“In my personal opinion, in fact, I think it’s a stupid step to get married, that’s my opinion,” he said.
Known for his soulful love songs, Chike also shared that his happiness is closely tied to financial security.
“For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even canal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money,” he added.
Reflecting on his music journey, he disclosed that he only realized music would become his career after completing university.
“I would say right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living. I won’t say I knew before, to be honest, because I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me,” he said.
The singer has previously made headlines for his unconventional views on love. In 2022, he revealed that he had never said “I love you,” noting that the phrase makes him feel “vulnerable.”
“I get that feeling that if I say it, my bolz would shrink and disappear. Happy I get to sing it though,” he said.
Chike launched his career in 2015 after competing in Project Fame and later emerged as the first runner-up in The Voice of Nigeria (2016). He released his debut single, Fancy, that same year and has since built a strong reputation for his love-themed tracks.
Beyond music, the 32-year-old has also ventured into acting, featuring in productions such as Gangs of Lagos and Battleground.
