2Baba Declares Burna Boy “Ahead of Wizkid and Davido Worldwide”

Nigerian music legend 2Baba (2Face Idibia) has weighed in on the debate surrounding the country’s top contemporary artists, stating that in his view, Burna Boy currently leads the global pack over his peers Wizkid and Davido.

The veteran singer shared his perspective during an interview on the Mic On Podcast. When asked by host Seun Okinbaloye to choose between the music of the three megastars, 2Baba expressed respect for all but singled out Burna Boy as being “on top of the game right now.”

He elaborated on his artistic criteria, noting that every major artist excels in their unique style. “Artistry… every artist is a major in his field. So there’s nothing like one sings better than the other,” he said.

However, when assessing overall artistry and impact, 2Baba emphasised Burna Boy’s distinct talent. He used the analogy of a painter creating unique works: “If an artist does this painting now, the next one he will paint will be different. So that’s how I see it.”

2Baba clarified that his judgment is based purely on music and artistic merit, not commercial success or personal wealth. “I don’t know their bank accounts… From what I can measure from at least common sense and understanding of the music world, I think right now Burna is on top of this chain. Not just in Nigeria, in Africa, in the world.”
