2027: NNPP Set to Decide on Coalition or Pres. Tinubu’s Re-Election Support at August 28 NEC Meeting

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced that it will determine whether to form a coalition or support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections during its forthcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for August 28.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ladipo Johnson, who explained that the NEC meeting would also address other critical matters, including upcoming congresses and the national convention, a review of recent by-elections, mass mobilisation, and new membership registration.

Johnson further revealed that the NEC will deliberate on ongoing constitutional reviews designed to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

He noted that the party remains open to multiple political options as long as they align with its founding principles and national interest.

“Politics is dynamic, but our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values,” Johnson said.

Outlining possible scenarios ahead of 2027, the NNPP spokesman listed three strategic options: forming an alliance or coalition with other parties, contesting the elections independently, or supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“So, to this extent, NNPP is still open to the three options we have talked about in the past: to form a kind of alliance or coalition, remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as an individual entity, or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election,” he added.

Johnson called on members to remain calm and assured them that the party’s final decisions would prioritise the interests of the Nigerian people. He also urged them to participate actively in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise and prepare for the nationwide mobilisation and membership drive.
