2 Suspects Arrested For Criminal Conspiracy And Culpable Homicide Of A 14-Year-Old Girl

In a shocking and tragic incident, two suspects have been apprehended by the police for their alleged involvement in the criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide of a 14-year-old girl. The incident took place in Izom, Gurara LGA, and has sent shockwaves through the community.

On the evening of June 5, 2023, at approximately 7:00 PM, Ubaida Surajo, a young girl residing in Izom, was brutally killed in her parents’ residence while her mother was away at the Izom market. The incident was reported to the Gawu-Babangida Division, prompting immediate action from the police.

The diligent efforts of the police operatives attached to the Gawu-Babangida Division led to the swift arrest of the two suspects at a local tea-joint in Izom on June 6, 2023. The suspects have been identified as Nuhu Mohammed, 26 years old, and Sani Usman, 22 years old, both residents of Izom town.

During interrogation, Nuhu, who happened to be a tenant in the same residence, confessed to his involvement in the tragic event. He revealed that an altercation had taken place earlier that day between himself and the deceased girl’s mother. The argument arose due to an accusation of Nuhu stealing a sum of ninety thousand naira.

Enraged by the accusation, Nuhu invited his friend, Sani, to the house, where they proceeded to attack the young girl as soon as she returned from school. Nuhu admitted that they inflicted severe injuries to the girl’s head and ultimately strangled her to death. To cover their tracks, they locked the house gate from outside and left the scene until the girl’s mother returned from the market and made the devastating discovery.

During a subsequent search conducted by the police, several items of interest were recovered as potential evidence. The recovered exhibits included six knives, two cutlasses, a digger, a suspected blood-stained shirt belonging to Nuhu, and various other pieces of clothing.

Following their arrest, the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation. Once the investigation is concluded, they will be arraigned in court to face prosecution for their alleged crimes.

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, expressed deep concern over the tragic incident and assured the public that justice would be served. The police command, through its Public Relations Officer, DSP W. A Abiodun, encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to prevent such heinous acts in the future.
