16 lives were lost, primarily young villagers, with four others injured during a recent assault by Boko Haram in the Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The attackers targeted Nguro village on the outskirts of Geidam LGA, striking at around 9:00 am on a Monday when many of the town’s residents were still asleep.
The motive behind the attack appears to be related to the resident’s refusal to pay taxes imposed by the terrorists. This defiance led to a violent response, compelling the community’s residents to flee for safety.
Human rights activist Babagana Aisami Geidam confirmed the loss of 16 lives, along with three injuries and one person in critical condition.
The deceased have been laid to rest following Islamic customs, and military personnel have been dispatched to the affected village to restore order.
According to Captain Muhammad Shehu, the Assistant Director of Public Relations for Operation Lafiya Dole, the terrorists accused the villagers of providing information to the troops that aided in locating their hideout.
