16 Abducted Worshippers Regain Freedom in Kaduna State

The remaining 16 worshippers who were abducted by bandits at Bege Baptist Church in Madala, near Buruku, in the Chikun local government area of Kaduna state have been freed. This comes after about 40 worshippers were taken captive during a Sunday service on May 7, 2023. Thankfully, many of the abducted individuals managed to escape, leaving behind the 16 who have now regained their freedom.

Expressing his gratitude to the Muslim community in the area, Reverend John Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Kaduna State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), addressed journalists on Monday.

He acknowledged the support and assistance provided by the Muslim community, stating that they had contributed funds and even purchased a motorcycle as part of the ransom demanded for the release of their Christian brethren and sisters.

The gesture exhibited by the Muslim community in Madala serves as an example of good neighborliness, care, and sincerity. Rev. Hayab emphasized that their actions should be emulated by people from all walks of life in other parts of the state. He stressed the importance of fostering unity and peaceful coexistence, which are vital for the overall development of the state.

Rev. Hayab highlighted that the Muslim community has demonstrated that one does not need formal education to act with compassion. He called on all Nigerians to become their brothers’ keepers, emphasizing the need to eliminate all forms of insecurity that plague the country.

Providing further details, Rev. Hayab explained that the 16 recently freed worshippers were released on Sunday. Many of them have already been reunited with their families, while those who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
