A shocking incident unfolded in Trom, a suburb of Koforidua, as a young man named Godwin Darko was taken into police custody on suspicion of killing his girlfriend. The victim, identified as Felicia Abena Oparibea, tragically lost her life in what appears to be a gruesome crime.
According to witnesses and co-tenants of the deceased, the incident occurred on Saturday when Felicia went outside to meet Godwin.
The young man accompanied her back into the compound, where the tragedy unfolded. Felicia, a former student of Koforidua Ghanass and a native of Suhum, had been working as a bar attendant at a popular local establishment.
Sources reveal that Felicia had relocated from Koforidua Betom to Trom Junction 5 approximately a year ago after she decided to end her relationship with Godwin. The decision was reportedly prompted by threats of violence from the accused.
The exact motive behind Godwin’s alleged act of murder remains unclear. However, witnesses describe a horrifying scene in which the young man tied Felicia’s lips, gagged her with pieces of cloth, and subsequently slit her throat.
Shockingly, the commotion and struggle went unnoticed by the neighbors, who were preoccupied with a naming ceremony taking place in the compound at the time of the crime.
Following the alleged murder, Godwin managed to scale the compound wall, discard the weapon used, and later turned himself in to the police during the night. On Sunday, authorities visited the crime scene with the suspect to conduct an investigation and gather evidence.
However, due to the rising anger of a mob that had assembled and posed a threat to the suspect’s safety, the police promptly removed him from the scene. Concerns were raised about potential vigilantism.
The body of the victim, 23-year-old Felicia Abena Oparibea, has been transported to the morgue at the Eastern Regional Hospital. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing, with authorities working diligently to uncover the full details surrounding the murder.
