Wike Clarifies Position on Petitioning EFCC to Investigate Former FCT Minister, Muhammed Bello

Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has taken a firm stance against recent reports suggesting that he filed a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch an investigation into alleged financial misconduct by his predecessor, Muhammed Bello, regarding funds allocated to the FCT.

These reports circulated online, accusing Wike of seeking EFCC’s intervention in probing Bello’s actions, which allegedly included inflating contract costs, authorizing green areas for residential purposes, and converting residential properties into commercial use.

However, Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press at the Office of the FCT Minister, refuted these claims during a telephone conversation with The Whistler on Saturday.

He firmly dismissed the allegations, attributing them to individuals with malicious intent, aiming to tarnish the reputation of the newly appointed FCT minister.

“It’s fake news, we are working on releasing a statement to officially deny the claims,”” Ogunleye asserted.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, assumed office as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory on August 21, 2023, following his inauguration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During his inaugural address, Wike asserted his commitment to eradicating illegal structures within the nation’s capital, Abuja.
