Dauda Lawal, the Zamfara state governor, has claimed that the state has never implemented a “minimum wage” policy since its inception.
He emphasised that until last month, some workers were still receiving salaries as low as N7,000.
He disclosed this during Channels TV “Sunrise Daily” on Tuesday, 11th of June, 2024 which was closely ni fired by Freshreporters media.
According to him,
“Since the creation of Zamfara state, there was nothing like a minimum wage, people as of last month were still earning N7,000 salaries. It’s just now that we implemented the N30,000.
“When we took over there was a backlog of salaries for over four months we had to clear that, ancient since 2012. About N13.6bn that is pending, we have just started paying pensioners, so far we have paid over N6bn of the backlog and we intend to clear it within the shortest possible time.”
When asked if the state would be able to pay the over N60,000 minimum wage, he said: “Let’s look at it, we’ll do all the calculations and see what we can do. There’s no guarantee but, we’ll meet somewhere, at least.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
