Varsities confirms receipt of FG payment of students’ as NELFUND doles out tuition fees

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as well as the Osun State University, has acknowledged the receipt of ₦226,931,440 and ₦218,954,500 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the institutional fees of 2,536 students and 717 students respectively.

The federal government has paid the tuition fees of these students directly to their institutions in the ongoing Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme.

The implementation of the student loan scheme is President Bola Tinubu’s flagship project in the education sector.

The president introduced the fund when he signed the Access to Higher Education Act, which creates a legal framework for granting loans to indigent or low-income Nigerians to facilitate the payment of their fees in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The Osun State University confirmed receipt of the payment in a letter by the Registrar, Oguntunde Atinuke, on Wednesday, 18th of September, 2024, while the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, confirmed theirs in a letter by the acting bursar, H.S.
