Usyk Defeats Fury To Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion (Video)

Oleksandr Usyk (35) defeated Tyson Fury (37) in a split decision to take the title of the new undisputed heavyweight world champion.

The fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was won by the Ukrainian by unanimous decision in rounds nineteen (115–112, 113–114, 114–113).

Usyk is currently the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, having won the title twice.

The two immediately contrasted in stature when they met in the center, and Usyk, who was quick on his feet, handled some of Fury’s early tests.

Usyk was in the corner not looking to amuse, but Fury was quick to emerge and play the audience by swaying his hips.

Usyk launched a swift one-two combo to start round two, which Fury dismissed with a chuckle before Usyk responded with a good range of shots of his own.

With a gash over Usyk’s right eye, Fury continued to fire shots quickly, and even though he was ahead, Usyk continued to taunt him in the corner.

With a powerful uppercut and two powerful body shots, a now-confident Fury had a significant effect in the sixth, forcing Usyk to retreat and regroup.

In the eighth round, the action began with both combatants landing hard strikes in an effort to take the upper hand.

Before Usyk returned, Fury launched a strike that slashed his opponent’s left side of the head and nose.

However, in a vicious ninth round that saw Fury beaten all over the ring, the tide turned decisively in Usyk’s favor.

After he staggered on the ropes and miraculously survived the round, the referee signaled a knockdown.

Knowing he was now in charge, Usyk kept his cool and didn’t go for a knockout, instead choosing to keep hurting Fury, who was starting to show signs of weakness.
