US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Lands In Nigeria As He Launches African Tour

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has landed in Nigeria to begin his tour of the continent as part of a diplomatic drive to fortify ties with African countries.

Blinken’s visit, which is slated for January 21–26, 2024, is a testament to the US government’s dedication to high-level involvement with Africa.

Blinken is scheduled to continue his tour after his stay in Nigeria, stopping in Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, and Angola.

Interestingly, he is focusing on Angola, a nation that has effectively transitioned from war to democracy and has been instrumental in mediating to settle turmoil in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo, rather than traveling to South Africa during this trip.

Blinken’s African visit, which began on Monday in Cape Verde, a country that has a long history of diplomatic ties with the United States, indicates a deliberate attempt to enhance diplomatic relations and address regional issues throughout the continent.
