Unknown Assailants Brutally Mürder Retired Civil Servant In Ogun State

Imasayi community in the Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State is in shock following the gruesome killing of a 62-year-old retired civil servant, Adetunji Ajayi.

The physically challenged man was mercilessly attacked and macheted to death by unknown assailants on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. The assailants allegedly broke into his house shortly after his family members had left for work.

The heartbreaking incident was confirmed by Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, in a statement released on Thursday, July 6.

According to Odutola, the septuagenarian was fatally attacked around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, and his lifeless body was discovered by his family members upon their return, lying in a pool of his own blood.

“The command received the report of the machete to death of one Adetunji Ajayi, 62 years, where unknown assailants gained entrance into the home of the deceased and murdered him,” stated the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

“The unfortunate incident happened yesterday (Wednesday) at about 1500hrs after the family members of the deceased went about their various daily business, leaving the physically challenged husband and father at home. His family members, on arrival at the close of work, discovered Late Adetunji Ajayi lifeless in the pool of his own blood.”

The Divisional Crime Officer of Imasayi conducted an investigation into the incident and confirmed the authenticity of the report. The deceased’s remains were subsequently taken to General Hospital Ilaro, where Mr. Adetunji Ajayi was officially pronounced dead. His body has been deposited at Ilaro General Hospital for further examinations.

The motive behind this heinous act remains unknown, leaving the Ogun State Police Command with no solid leads. However, Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu has been fully briefed and assured the grieving family that the perpetrators of this senseless crime will face justice.

Alamutu stated, “The Ogun State Police Command has no firm lead about the reason behind this extreme viciousness. However, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu has been briefed and he has assured the families that the killers, bloodthirsty and cruel-minded criminals will regret their actions. He assured that justice will be done, and the killers will definitely not go scot-free.”

Expressing deep condolences to the affected families, the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters emphasized its commitment to swiftly investigate the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
