In Rochester, New Hampshire, the local police department is actively trying to identify a woman struck by a car on Friday night.
Authorities are also on the lookout for the driver involved in the incident.
The unfortunate event took place at approximately 10:20 p.m. near the Hannaford store situated on Milton Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered an unidentified woman who had sustained a head injury and was lying on the ground.
According to the investigation conducted by the police, it was determined that the woman had been walking northbound along Milton Road, pushing an empty stroller at the time of the accident.
She was hit from behind by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. Shockingly, the driver did not stop to provide assistance or exchange information.
Captain Andrew Swanberry of the Rochester Police Department shed light on the initial findings of the investigation.
He stated, “Our initial investigation indicates that the pedestrian was walking with the flow of traffic. Both the pedestrian and the vehicle were moving northbound. We strongly encourage pedestrians to walk against traffic, enabling them to potentially anticipate approaching vehicles and move out of harm’s way.”
The injured woman was promptly transported to the hospital due to the severity of her injuries.
Regrettably, the authorities have not yet been able to establish her identity.
However, they have shared some descriptive details about her appearance. She was wearing a purple shirt, a blue sweatshirt, white pants, and black shoes at the time of the incident.
Police have provided crucial information regarding the vehicle involved in the accident. They believe it to have sustained damage on the front passenger’s side, possibly extending to the hood and windshield.
