Two riot police officers were set on fire by a mob, and two more were injured in Ikpeshi, in the Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo state,
The mob action followed an incident involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to escort-duty policemen in the convoy of former Edo House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje, which hit a motorcycle, resulting in the tragic deaths of the rider, a woman, and her child.
Sources claim that Ikpeshi youths overpowered and fatally assaulted the two police officers after besieging the Edo State Security Vigilance Network headquarters.
But the vigilance members managed to save the lives of two more police officers, and their firearms were found.
The officers who were saved are presently receiving care at an Edo hospital that is not publicly known.
The four officers were from Rivers State’s Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19, Port Harcourt.
Tajudeen Alade, the chairman of the Akoko-Edo local government council, condemned the actions of Ikpeshi’s youths and said that those responsible will be found, apprehended, and brought to justice in order to serve as a warning to other misbehaving youths. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
