Two Minors Arrested For Faking Kidnapping In Ondo State

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, have apprehended two minors for allegedly feigning their own kidnapping.

The girls, aged 13 and 15, were caught after locking themselves in a hotel room in the Akoko area of the state and demanding a ransom from their parents for their release.

Commander Adetunji Adeleye of the Amotekun Corps revealed this development to the press, explaining that the teenagers had concealed themselves and demanded a sum of N100,000 from their mother under the pretense of abduction. Disturbingly, they even went as far as threatening the town’s monarch, stating that if the ransom wasn’t paid within 24 hours, they would execute the abductees they claimed to have in their custody.

Adetunji Adeleye, who also serves as the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, elaborated that the joint efforts of the Amotekun Corps and the State Security Service (SSS) led to the arrest of the two girls. The authorities managed to track the phone number utilized by the girls during their criminal act.

During interrogation, the younger sister confessed that they had spent a night at their grandmother’s house and left early in the morning, alleging mistreatment by their mother as the motive behind their actions. She said, “We left the house because my mother used to behave towards us as if she is not the one that gave birth to me and decided to collect money from her.”

Adetunji Adeleye further explained that the two minors, hailing from Oka-Akoko, orchestrated their own kidnapping and demanded a ransom of N100,000 from their parents and the community’s traditional ruler.

After a three-day stay at a hotel, their parents reported their supposed abduction to the Amotekun office, prompting a swift response from the security agency.

The tracing of the phone number used during the ransom negotiations led to the arrest of the girls, who were shocked to learn that they were apprehended as the perpetrators behind their own abduction.

The Amotekun commandant expressed his gratitude to the Department of State Service (DSS) for their assistance in apprehending the culprits. He condemned the girls’ actions, highlighting their audacity in threatening the traditional ruler while oblivious to the fact that they were the ones perpetrating the crime.
