This week, there is a warning for a solar storm because during the weekend, the Sun sent two strong streams of charged particles straight for Earth.
According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the first is expected to have an impact by Monday and the second by Wednesday. Both have a 60% chance of producing radio blackouts.
Nevertheless, as far south as northern Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, the event is also expected to produce breathtaking auroras.
Amateur radio operators and GPS users could anticipate interruptions on Earth’s nightside, according to physicist Tamitha Skov.
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were released by the two active sunspots, 3559 and 3555, barely a day apart.
Billions of tons of corona material can be expelled from the Sun’s surface by CMEs. Magnetic fields and plasma make up the substance.
Such eruptions have the potential to cause space weather, which might be dangerous for unprotected astronauts and interfere with Earth’s power systems and satellites.
On January 20, Skov said on X: “We have one or two #solarstorms approaching Earth today!” The first one took off close to Region 3555. On January 22, early to midday, it is predicted to occur.
The second storm is a side-swiping one that forms close to 3559. It could deal us a sharp blow on January 23.
Also, there is currently an unstable filament in the Earth-strike zone. It will be the third storm approaching Earth if it launches! [CONTINUE READING HERE]
