Troops Clear IPOB Enclaves, K!ll One Fighter, Recover Arms

One Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) fighter was killed by Nigerian Army troops during operations in the southeast, according to the army.

The gunman was killed during a “intense firefight in their enclave at Ihiteukwa community in Orsu local government area of Imo state.”

According to the report, during the raid on Saturday, March 2, forces also found three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a Toyota Highlander SUV, a Hilux car, a big cache of weapons and ammunition, and Biafra cash.

On Sunday, March 3, troops also carried out a similar clearance operation at a suspected IPOB/ESN crossing point in Akawa Nneato general area of Umunneochi local government area of Abia state, according to a statement made by an Army spokesperson, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

According to Nwachukwu, the terrorists were involved in a gunfight with the army throughout the operation, which caused them to scatter erratically into the neighboring bushes.

According to an army spokesman, following the gunfight, the soldiers took advantage of the jungle and found one FN rifle with four rounds of NATO 7.62mm ammunition, two empty magazines, and an AK-47 rifle loaded with 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Nwachukwu said: “In another development, troops operating in the Kawara general area of Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State have cleared and destroyed a series of terrorists’ camps in the area.

“During the operation, troops recovered three motorbikes, one PKT Gun link containing 246 rounds of 7.62mm by 39mm ammunition, one woodland camouflage and a pair of Desert boots. Other items recovered include 3 magazine carriers and one Boafeng Radio.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]
