Following reports of an attack on the State Secretariat Agodi in Ibadan, Oyo State, troops swiftly raced to the scene and made contact with Yoruba Nation supporters who were equipped with hazardous weapons on busses and motorbikes and dressed in foreign military camouflage with berets.
The supporters of the Yoruba nation engaged the military in gunfire after coming across their own soldiers. With superior firepower, the troops were able to suppress the assailants, who then withdrew in confusion. Nine irredentist group members were captured as a consequence of this encounter, and one semiautomatic pump action gun and its ammo were found.
The situation is under control as soldiers are currently pursuing the escaping supporters.
The army claimed in a statement issued by Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations:
“We assure members of the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the general area.
“We urge the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate security agencies. The safety and security of the citizenry remain a priority, as we will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and order in the region.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]
