In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the LGBTQ+ community, 31-year-old trans woman Anna Ivankova was found dead in her apartment in Athens, Greece.
It was gathered that the harrowing discovery was made on Monday (10 July) when the landlady attempted to collect the rent.
Police were immediately alerted and upon arriving at the scene in the Agios Panteleimon neighborhood, they found Ivankova with multiple stab wounds.
As the investigation is still ongoing, authorities from the Attica Security Directorate have conducted a preliminary examination of the apartment to establish the precise circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.
At this stage, no suspects have been publicly identified. As support pours in from the community, activists are calling for a thorough investigation and justice to be served in what appears to be a devastating loss for the transgender community in Greece.
Ivankova, who was born in Cuba, reportedly moved to Greece in 2019 after battling against violence and discrimination due to her gender identity.
After moving to Athens, she began working at the LGBTQ+ club Koukles where she performed drag shows and became popular with the local queer community.
