An online video that went viral and appeared to show a robbery that happened in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja was incorrectly portrayed, according to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The event proved to have happened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, according to Muyiwa Adejobi, the NPF spokeswoman, after the footage underwent “thorough digital forensics analysis.”
Drivers during a traffic check were shown in the nighttime footage being threatened and robbed by armed people.
According to Adejobi, the video was uploaded on X on April 22 by a person from South Africa. The title of the video indicated that traveling to Ethiopia without a firearm is risky.
He said that some “mischief makers” then shared the footage, claiming that the event took place in Abuja.
Adejobi stated that legal action would be taken against the offenders and that Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered a thorough inquiry to find out who is behind the fraudulent allegation. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
