Tobi Amusan Wins Big at Maiden Jamaica Athletics Invitational

Tobi Amusan Sets World-Leading 100m Hurdles Record

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan fired into a big victory in the wome­n’s 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational on Sunday.

Amusan clocke­d a season’s best of 12.40s(0.9m/s) to win the race­.

The 27-year-old defe­ated Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, who ran 12.46s, while­ Christina Clemons of the United State­s of America was third in 12.54s.

Amusan has now taken over the­ world lead from American Tonea Marshall, who had run 12.42s in late­ April.

The Jamaica Athletics Invitational is a Continental Tour-Silve­r event.

“This is the healthiest I’ve been. It’s a pain-free season compared to other years,” World Athletics website quoted Amusan to have said.

“I told myself: ‘I’m not getting a DQ today’. I’m not the best of starters, but looking at how I executed today, it could have been better, but I am thankful for the win.”

John Enoh, who is the minister of Sport in Nigeria took to his X(formerly twitter) handle to congratulate the Nigerian athletics queen for her latest achievement.

“Take your flowers Tobi Amusan, you stormed to an emphatic win in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, clocking a time of 12.40s (0.9), a World Lead time!

“You defeated World Champion Danielle Williams, who came 2nd in 12.46s, while Christina Clemons was 3rd in 12.54s.
