Tinubu to Depart Nigeria to Attend Mahama’s Inauguration in Accra on Monday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Monday, January 6, for Accra, Ghana’s capital, to participate in the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for 7th of January 2025.

John Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was reelected in December 2024 and will assume office, succeeding President Nana Akuffo-Addo, whose tenure spanned from 2017 to 2025.

In a statement released on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted the strong personal and diplomatic ties between Mahama and Tinubu, as well as between Nigeria and Ghana.

“President Tinubu, in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other African leaders at the inauguration,” Onanuga said.

Accompanying the president on this trip will be the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, along with other senior government officials.
