The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies are on the verge of completing their mandatory checks on the list of ministerial nominees, which President Tinubu is expected to send to the National Assembly for confirmation.
This process marks a crucial step towards the fulfillment of the Nigerian constitution’s requirement for the President to announce his Ministerial appointments within sixty days of assuming office.
President Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, has just 18 days remaining to meet this constitutional deadline. As the deadline approaches, speculations have been rife about the imminent release of the ministerial list. Last week, Dele Alake, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, hinted at an upcoming release of the list during a press conference.
Addressing the media, Alake emphasized the executive nature of the Nigerian presidency, asserting that the President has the final authority in determining the appropriate time for the unveiling of the cabinet list. “About the ministerial list, the simple truth is this is an executive presidency. We’re not running a parliamentary system. So the President, the buck stops on his table, and he decides when it’s fit and proper for him to make his cabinet list,” Alake stated.
