Three Suspected Armed Robbers K!lled In Gun Battle With Delta State Police

In a fierce encounter with the Delta State Police Command, three suspected armed robbers were neutralized while others managed to escape.

The incident occurred during a gun battle between the criminals and police operatives in Warri on Friday, June 23, 2023.

According to the statement released by DSP Bright Edafe, spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, the police received a distress call about an ongoing armed robbery operation along the Ugborikoko/Giwa-Amu airport road in Warri. The armed hoodlums were reportedly operating in an unregistered black Toyota Corolla car.

In response to the call, officers from the ‘B’ Division Warri, led by DPO SP Bolarinwa Alabi, swiftly arrived at the scene. Upon their arrival, the criminals, upon sighting the advancing police team, opened fire on the officers. The police team retaliated, resulting in a serious exchange of gunfire.

During the intense gun duel, three of the suspected armed robbers sustained fatal injuries, leading to their immediate demise. Unfortunately, the remaining members of the gang managed to escape, although some were believed to have been wounded by police gunfire.

The Delta State Police Command recovered several items from the scene, including a cut-to-size locally fabricated gun, two live cartridges, an unregistered black Toyota Corolla car, and eight different vehicle keys, suggesting the involvement of the suspects in multiple criminal activities.

While the manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Wale Abass, called on the public, particularly residents of Delta State, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating crime and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
