The Recent 35% Increment Is just An Award Not Negotiated Salary Increment – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has said the much-publicised recent salary increment is an award from the Nigeria federal government, not a negotiated increment between the union and the government in the recent administration.

This was issued out in a statement released on Monday and signed by ASUU Na Yiñká president, Emmanuel Osodeke, the union clarified details about the increment circulating online.

Reports surfaced earlier that President Tinubu approved the implementation of 35 percent and 23 percent of salary increments for staff of all federal tertiary institutions.

The statement reads,

“RE: IMPLEMENTATION OF 35% AND 23.5% SALARY INCREMENT FOR STAFF OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Kindly refer to the above and the documents circulating in social media on the salary increment. Recall that this was the award by the Federal Government during our Re-negotiation with the Nimi Brigg’s Committee. Note that our union rejected the offer because it came outside the rubrics of the collective bargaining process of true negotiations.

“In our last meeting with the Ministers of Education on the 3rd of September, 2023, they promised to implement the award in the interim pending the conclusion of the FGN/ASUU 2009 re-negotiation agreement.

“Comrades, please note that this is an Award and not a negotiated salary increment. We shall continue to struggle for an appropriate Salary Scale for our Members through Collective Bargaining Principles.

“Be rest assured that the struggle continues. A people united can never be defeated.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
