Tax Reforms Set for January 1 Start Date, Unchanged Despite Debate

The Chairman of Nigeria’s Presidential Tax Reform Committee, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, has confirmed the country’s major tax overhaul will proceed as planned, taking full effect on January 1, 2026.

The announcement followed a briefing with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos. Oyedele stated the reforms remain on track and unchanged despite various public concerns. The discussion centered on the implementation progress of four recently enacted tax laws.

Two of those laws the Nigerian Revenue Service Act and the Joint Revenue Service Act have already been in effect since June 26, 2025.
