A brutal attack by suspected bandits on a community market in Niger State has left at least 30 people dead and several others kidnapped. The assault targeted the Kasuwan Daji market in the Borgu Local Government Area on Saturday.
According to reports, the gunmen invaded in large numbers around 4 p.m., firing indiscriminately. Witnesses stated that the attackers restrained and killed numerous victims while looting food supplies and valuables worth millions of Naira before setting the market ablaze. The operation continued into Sunday morning without resistance.
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that over 30 people were killed and several abducted. He noted that a joint security team visited the site to assess the situation and that efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped victims. Many residents remain unaccounted for, and the full scale of the abduction is feared to be higher than initial reports.
