Speaker House Of Reps, Gbaja Calls For Prosecution of Oil Thieves In Nigeria

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has today called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of crude oil smugglers in the country.

The Speaking made this appeal after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) presented the proposed 2023 budget today, Friday, 7th of October, 2022.

Gbaja noted that the arrest prosecution of crude oil thieves has become important in light of the revenue challenges facing Nigeria and that the arrangement put in place to curb this set of smugglers are no longer adequate.

According to him “The actions (of crude oil thieves) constitute treason to our country. They and their sponsors must be held accountable to the full extent of the law.

“We are urging an overhaul of the system to curb oil theft. The arrangements in place are no longer adequate. It is important to act and act quickly.”
